MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Norfloxacin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It functions by inhibiting DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerase, and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary to separate bacterial DNA, thereby inhibiting cell division. Loperamide works by decreasing the activity of the myenteric plexus, which decreases the tone of the longitudinal smooth muscles but increases the tone of circular smooth muscles of the intestinal wall. This increases the number of times substances stay in the intestine, allowing for more water to be absorbed out of the fecal matter.
INDICATIONS:
Effective for the treatment of diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome, drug-induced diarrhoea.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Contraindicated in those with a history of tendonitis, tendon rupture and those with a hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones. Treatment should be avoided in the presence of a high fever or if the stool is bloody (dysentery). It is of no value in diarrhoea caused by cholera, shigella or campylobacter.
SIDE-EFFECTS:
Nausea, dizziness, stomach cramps, headache, weakness, dry mouth.
DOSAGE:
As prescribed by the physician.

Protect from light and store below 25℃.
