MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Calcium Carbonate is a calcium supplement that is used in deficiency states and as an adjunct in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble sterol, it aids in the regulation of calcium and phosphate homeostasis and bone mineralization.
INDICATIONS:
Low calcium levels such as weak bones, decreased activity of the parathyroid gland, and certain muscle diseases (latent tetany). It may also be used in certain patients to make sure they are getting enough calcium (e.g., women who are pregnant, nursing, or postmenopausal, people taking certain medications such as phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone).
CONTRA-INDICATIONS:
Patients with hypercalcaemia and/or hypercalciuria, hypophosphatemia.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Constipation or stomach upset may occur.
PRECAUTIONS & WARNING:
Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: high calcium/vitamin D levels (hypercalcemia/hypervitaminosis D), difficulty absorbing nutrition from food (malabsorption syndrome). Caution when used in patients with a history of kidney stones.
