5. Mechanism of Action: Paradichlorobenzene, primarily functions as a cerumenolytic agent, meaning it helps in the breakdown and removal of earwax (cerumen). The mode of action involves its ability to soften and dissolve the earwax, making it easier to remove from the ear canal. Paradichlorobenzene achieves this by disrupting the hydrogen bonds that hold the long-chain fatty acids and alcohols in earwax together. As a result, the wax becomes less compact and more liquid. Benzocaine acts as a local anesthetic, numbing the ear canal to provide relief from pain and discomfort. Chlorbutol functions as a sedative-hypnotic agent, exerting calming effects on the ear canal. Turpentine oil in ear drops act as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent, potentially helping to reduce inflammation and prevent infection in the ear canal.

11. Contraindications: Disovex ear drops is contraindicated in certain situations. Contraindications may include –

Disovex ear drops is generally not recommended in case of inflamed ear canal, perforated eardrum, or eczema (skin inflammation) on the outer ear.

Disovex ear drops is not recommended for use in children below 1 year of age.
