Mechanism of Action: Salbutamol is a β2-adreneceptor agonist binds to the β2 receptor, which activates adenyl cyclase, resulting in the conversion of cyclic AMP. Cyclic AMP then triggers a cascade of intracellular events that culminate in the inhibition of the contraction of bronchial smooth muscle, thereby promoting smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation. Bromhexine is a mucolytic, helps in enhancing the production of serous mucus in the respiratory tract and helps in the production of thinner and less viscous phlegm. This produces a secretomotoric effect by helping the cilia in expectoring the phlegm out of the lungs. Guaifenesin, a mucoactive drug, acts by loosening mucus in the airways and making coughs more productive. It is used for relief of wet cough and chest congestion due to the common cold. Menthol triggers cooling sensation in the upper airways and provides relief from nasal congestion and dyspnea in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Indications: Kofnil Expectorant Syrup is indicated for clinical relief of cough associated with bronchitis, bronchial asthma, emphysema and other bronchopulmonary disorders where bronchospasm, mucous plugging and problems of expectoration co-exist.
