XTRADERM CREAM

Description: Xtraderm cream is a topical medication that combines a potent corticosteroid (clobetasol), an antibiotic (neomycin), and an antifungal (miconazole) for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions with bacterial and fungal infections.

Dosage Form: Cream

Route of Administration: Topical

Composition:

Clobetasol Propionate                        I.P.           0.05% w/w

Neomycin Sulphate                            I.P.           0.5% w/w

Miconazole Nitrate                             I.P.           2% w/w

Chlorocresol (Preservative)               I.P.           0.1% w/w

Cream base                                                          q.s.

Mechanism of Action: Clobetasol propionate exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting inflammation, suppressing the immune response, and causing vasoconstriction through binding to glucocorticoid receptors and modulating gene expression. Neomycin, an antibiotic, acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit. Miconazole primarily acts as an antifungal agent by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption leads to increased permeability and eventual death of the fungal cells, effectively treating and preventing fungal infections on the skin. Chlorocresol is a preservative, acts by disrupting the cell membrane and enzymes of microorganisms, thereby preventing their growth and preserving the stability of the cream.

Indications: Xtraderm cream is commonly indicated for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions associated with bacterial and fungal infections.

Dosage: As directed by the physician.

Side effects: Dryness, Itching, Redness

Contraindications: Patients with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to its component should not use the cream.

Precautions:  Prolonged use of clobetasol, especially on large areas of the skin or under occlusive dressings, can lead to systemic absorption and may result in side effects such as adrenal suppression. Limit the duration of use as directed by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Monitor for signs of allergic reactions, especially to neomycin, which can cause sensitisation. If irritation or sensitisation occurs, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider. Prolonged use of antifungal agents like miconazole may lead to the development of fungal resistance. Use the medication as directed and avoid unnecessary or prolonged application. Consult with a healthcare professional before using this combination cream during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as some components may have potential risks.

Storage: Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture. Do not freeze.
