DESCRIPTION: Amikamac Injection contains Amikacin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic effective against a variety of aerobic gram-negative bacilli including those that are resistant to gentamicin and other aminoglycosides.

MECHANISM OF ACTION: Amikacin works by binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of mRNA and leaving the bacterium unable to synthesize proteins vital to its growth.
INDICATIONS: It is indicated for short term treatment of serious infections caused by broad spectrum of Gram-negative organisms, including pseudomonas and some Gram-positive organisms.
DOSAGE: As prescribed by the physician.
SIDE EFFECTS: Muscle weakness, reduced urine volume, dizziness or trouble standing.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides. Generally not indicated for long-term therapy because of ototoxicity (damage to the ear) and nephrotoxicity (damage to kidney cells).
PRECAUTIONS & WARNING: Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney disease, vertigo, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, myasthenia gravis, or Parkinson’s disease, during pregnancy, Do not use if the solution contains particles/suspended matter.
STORAGE: Store in a refrigerator, Do not freeze, Take it out of the refrigerator an hour before the time for your next dose.
