CETIRIZINE HYDROCHLORIDE ORAL SOLUTION BP

COMPOSITION:
Each 5 ml contains:
Cetirizine HCl BP 5mg
In a Flavoured Syrup Base q.s.

DESCRIPTION: Cetirizine is a piperazine derivative, a second-generation antihistamine used in the treatment
of allergies, hay fever, angioedema, and urticaria. It is a major metabolite of hydroxyzine and
a racemic selective H1 receptor inverse agonist.

MECHANISM OF ACTION: Cetirizine competes with histamine for binding at H1-receptor sites on the effector cell surface, resulting in suppression of histaminic edema, flare, and pruritus. It crosses the bloodbrain barrier only slightly, reducing the sedative side-effect common with older antihistamines.

THERAPEUTIC INDICATION: Symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis, lacrimation, itching eyes, and/or oronasopharyngeal itching associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis or other upper respiratory allergies.
