MECHANISM OF ACTION: Sildenafil acts by inhibiting cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), an enzyme that promotes the degradation of cGMP, which regulates blood flow in the penis. Sildenafil treats erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increased blood flow can cause an erection.
INDICATIONS: Indicated to treat erectile dysfunction.
DOSAGE: As prescribed by the physician.
SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, flushing, dyspepsia, muscle aches and impaired vision.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated during treatment of cardiovascular disease using glyceryl trinitrate, sodium nitroprusside, amyl nitrite, hypotension, hereditary degenerative retinal disorders.
