MECHANISM OF ACTION: Iron(III)-hydroxide polymaltose complex (IPC) is an iron preparation with non-ionic Iron and Polymaltose in a stable complex. Conventional iron salts contain iron in ferrous form; Iron Polymaltose Complex contains iron in ferric form, thus preventing the formation of free radicals. It has rapid absorption, a high rate of iron utilisation, effective haemoglobin production and excellent gastrointestinal tolerance.
INDICATIONS: In nutritional anaemia, fatigue, general debility & convalescence, anaemia of pregnancy and lactation, anaemia due to chronic haemorrhage.
DOSAGE: As directed by the physician.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, regurgitation, constipation, pyrosis (burning sensation in the chest), an upset stomach may occur with the use of hematinics. Iron may cause your stools to turn black, an effect that is not harmful.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Ferimac is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of this product.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Since the iron is complex-bound, ionic interaction with foodstuff components & tetracyclines, antacids are unlikely to occur.
STORAGE: Store in a temperature below 25 °C. Shake well before use.
