MECHANISM OF ACTION: Ferrotone capsule is a nutritional supplement combining iron, vitamins & minerals. The Ferrous Fumarate salt helps reduce the chances of getting gastrointestinal problems usually associated with other iron salts. It has around 33% of elemental iron. Cupric Sulfate is essential to the human body to help promote normal growth and good health. Specifically, it helps with bone development, nerve function and sugar metabolism. Taking manganese orally with calcium, zinc, and copper helps reduce spinal bone loss. Zinc is vital in the production of T-cells, which help fight infections. It plays a critical role in protein synthesis and carbohydrate metabolism. Folic acid is a form of water-soluble vitamin B9 and is a key factor in synthesising nucleic acids (DNA & RNA). It is vital for the production of healthy red blood cells. Calcium carbonate is a calcium supplement that is used in deficiency states.

INDICATIONS: Iron deficiency anaemia, pregnancy anaemia, pernicious anaemia, lactation, loss of appetite, general weakness and convalescence.

DOSAGE: As prescribed by the physician.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, regurgitation, constipation, pyrosis (burning sensation in the chest), and an upset stomach may occur with hematinics. Iron may cause your stools to turn black, an effect that is not harmful. GI effects can be reduced by taking it with food.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated in case of any hypersensitive reaction to any of the ingredients in this medicine.

PRECAUTIONS: Oral iron may aggravate existing peptic ulcers, regional enteritis and ulcerative colitis.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Iron compounds taken orally can impair the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. Manganese also decreases the absorption of tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics. Antacids given concomitantly with iron compounds decrease iron absorption.
