MECHANISM OF ACTION:Clotrimazole acts by inhibiting the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme-Lanosterol 14-demethylase, and thus impairs ergosterol synthesis leading to a cascade of membrane abnormalities in the fungus. Metronidazole is reduced by bacterial nitroreductase to an unstable intermediate, which interacts with DNA effectively, preventing further replication.INDICATIONS:Vaginitis due to fungi, mainly candida and/or trichomonas. Superinfection with bacteria sensitive to gram positive-streptococci/staphylococci and gram-negative Bacteroides.CONTRAINDICATIONS:Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of this medicine.SIDE EFFECTS:Burning, stinging, redness, swelling, fever, irritation.PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS:Metronidazole has been shown to be carcinogenic in mice and rats.
