Mechanism of Action: Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic drug that is used to temporarily relieve mild-to-moderate pain and fever. It inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX) in the central nervous system, reducing the production of prostaglandins and providing analgesic (pain-relieving) and antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects. Phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant that works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages. This constriction reduces swelling and congestion in the nasal tissues, making it easier to breathe. It is commonly used to relieve nasal congestion associated with conditions like the common cold or allergies. Diphenhydramine is a first-generation antihistamine with antitussive (cough-suppressant) properties. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical involved in the inflammatory response and allergic reactions. In the context of cough preparation, diphenhydramine helps suppress cough reflexes by acting on the central nervous system. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant. In cough and cold preparations, caffeine is often included to enhance the effectiveness of other ingredients or to counteract drowsiness caused by antihistamines. Caffeine can have mild bronchodilator effects, which may help open airways and ease breathing. Additionally, it may increase alertness and reduce the perception of fatigue.
