MECHANISM OF ACTION:Calcium carbonate is a calcium supplement used in deficiency states and as an adjunct in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble sterol. It aids in the regulation of calcium and phosphate homeostasis and bone mineralization.INDICATIONS:Low calcium levels such as bone loss (osteoporosis), weak bones (osteomalacia/rickets), decreased activity of the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism), and specific muscle diseases (latent tetany). It may also be used in certain patients to ensure they are getting enough calcium (e.g., pregnant women, nursing, or postmenopausal, people taking certain medications such as phenytoin, phenobarbital, or prednisone).CONTRA-INDICATIONS:Patients with hypercalcemia and/or hypercalciuria.
