Mechanism of Action: Dicyclomine is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) agent. Dicyclomine hydrochloride exerts its pharmacological effects as an antispasmodic agent primarily by blocking muscarinic receptors in the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract. As a muscarinic antagonist, dicyclomine inhibits the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in stimulating smooth muscle contractions. By doing so, dicyclomine helps to alleviate muscle spasms and reduce hypermotility in the gastrointestinal tract, making it useful in conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Indications: Spas injection is used for abdominal pain and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
