MECHANISM OF ACTION: Diphenhydramine acts as an antihistamine by blocking histamine receptors. It provides relief from allergy symptoms and reduces cough reflex sensitivity. Ammonium chloride and terpin hydrate are expectorants that decrease the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and help in its removal from the airways. It also helps to reduce the irritation in the throat that can trigger coughing. Sodium citrate is a mucolytic that thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Together, these ingredients work synergistically to address different aspects of cough symptoms.
INDICATIONS: Indicated for clinical relief from dry cough, whooping cough, smoker's cough, chronic cough & post-surgical cough.
DOSAGE: As prescribed by the physician. For better results, Torex should be taken with lukewarm water.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, constipation, nausea, or anxiety may occur.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated in respiratory depression, especially in cyanosis and excessive bronchial secretion. It should not be given during an attack of bronchial asthma or heart failure secondary to chronic lung disease. Contraindicated in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping such treatment.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Antidepressants, sedatives, tranquillisers, sleeping pills, and cimetidine.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: heart problems, lung disease (e.g., asthma, emphysema), depression, constipation, a history of drug dependency, or allergies (especially to narcotic pain medications). Use caution when performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication causes you to feel drowsy.
