Mechanism of Action: Melanin is a pigment that gives the skin and hair color. It is responsible for freckles and other dark patches on the skin. It is made by melanocytes, which are present in the skin and other parts of the body. Hydroquinone produces reversible lightening of the skin by interfering with melanin production by the melanocytes. Specifically, inhibition of the enzymatic conversion of tyrosine to DOPA (dihydroxyphenylalanine) results in the desired chemical reduction of pigment. Ultimately, this causes a decrease in the number of melanocytes and decreased transfer of melanin leading to lighter skin. Tretinoin, also known as all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), is a naturally occurring derivative of vitamin A (retinol). It enhances skin cell turnover, promoting the shedding of old, pigmented skin cells and encouraging the growth of new, evenly pigmented cells. Fluocinolone is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties that helps reduce skin inflammation and prevent the recurrence of skin conditions.
Indications: U-B Fair cream is typically indicated for the treatment of various dermatological conditions, including: Melasma (brown or gray patches on the face), Hyperpigmentation (dark spots), Acne and inflammatory skin conditions.
Side effects: Mild skin irritation, Dryness, Redness, Itching, Burning sensation
Contraindications: Patients with a history of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to its components should not use the cream.
Precautions: Avoid sun exposure and use sun protection measures (sunscreen, protective clothing) during treatment, as these ingredients can increase sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity). Discontinue use if signs of allergic reactions or severe irritation occur and seek medical advice. The safety and efficacy of U-B Fair cream in pediatric populations may not be established, and use in children should be under the supervision of a healthcare provider. Prolonged use of corticosteroids like flucinolone may lead to skin atrophy, so the duration of use should be as directed by a healthcare professional. Avoid using other potentially irritating or drying topical products simultaneously unless directed by a healthcare provider.
Directions for use: Apply only once at night. Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine. Wash your face and neck with water and a mild soap. Rinse well and pat dry. Apply a small amount of the medicine to each affected area of the skin and include about 1/2 inch of normal appearing skin around each lesion. Gently rub it in. Do not cover the treated area with a bandage unless you are told to do so by your doctor. Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of SPF 30 or higher during the day.
